Week #5 - Joy Saha
Due to our low stock of disposable face masks, my family and I are now relying on YouTube homemade mask tutorials to create some much needed facial protection. My grandma is an excellent sewer and she used her skills to make five individual masks all made out of old T-shirts and cloth.
My grandma carefully measures and cuts each piece of cloth to a uniform size for the masks she created. She used large pieces of cloth for the front portion of the masks. Afterwards, she sewed them with thin pieces of scrap cloth, which served as straps and ear-pieces.
This Evergreen tree outside our living room window is ginormous. During an exceptionally windy and sunny afternoon, the tree and it's vibrant green leaves were illuminated by the strong sun. My family and I later spotted an old and decaying bee hive hanging off of the tree's innermost branches.
My mom and I always look forward to Fridays because that's when we brainstorm elaborate meal plans for our weekly family Saturday breakfasts. Last Sunday, we decided to bake a batch of cake donuts paired with two types of glazes -- chocolate mocha and cinnamon sugar. The donuts and their holes were light, airy and highly addicting.
My mom absolutely hates store-bought orange juice because of its high sugar content. However, my younger brother can't eat his breakfast without sipping a generous cup of sugary orange juice. My mom decided to make her own version of orange juice and she added carrots, apples and Meyer lemons into the juicer along with a couple of clementines. The orange juice was a major hit and even my brother couldn't stop asking for refills.
Yesterday, I decided to bake a batch of brownies and I was looking through my mom's old cookbooks for the right recipe. I stumbled upon two recipes, one for cake brownies and another for fudge brownies. I decided to bake the fudge brownies because my family and I were craving something rich and decadent to enjoy after our dinner.
My mom prefers watching YouTube videos over regular cable television or even Netflix. She recently started binge watching travel and food vlogs and during one afternoon, she sat down to watch one about Spain. After watching this particular vlog, my mom was inspired to make paella for dinner.
Before sitting down for dinner, I spotted this beautiful moon from the apartment's balcony. Even though the moon looks quite round, it is not a full moon. I loved how it was surrounded by some tree leaves and I found this scene to be oddly ethereal.
